I said I would be asking some interesting questions for debate etc, and I have been failing, so here’s one to make up for it.

Sun Fist – Bright, Blazing and as Glorious as the Sun.
Just Curious to see how many people throw regular straight punches with a sun fist, or do you twist your fist for straight punches.

And of course…Why?

I twist my fist in straight punches because that's how you taught me Sihing!!
In my not-so qualified opinion i think the twist makes the straight punch
stronger and more effective than the sun fist. But the sun fist in the right
application would prolly be faster to execute(??).

if my straight punch is rising, i.e. if i am punching to the bottom of the chin trying to throw head type deal. (or like the one of the arrow fist variations which has a slight upward movement hint to it) or if i need a bit more distance i would use the sun fist (this is talking about the front hand).

For just about everything else i use a regular fist. As I think they hit a little harder for me.

Agreed. I use the sun fist when it's an upward angle punch to the face. For me it's mostly because an twisted punch has a high probability of landing with the finger knuckles instead of with yer punchin knuckles.

This has been a point of contention for me for years. I've found that the sunfist is the hardest punch for your opponent to use against you compared to a full twist like a boxer punch as when you use the full twist and turn your fist 180 degrees over, getting striked upwards by someones hand can be potential harmful to your elbow, whereas with a normal sunfist you won't encounter this problem as much as you would just have your hand come back in a more natural way as you can retract your elbow more.

Turning your fist 90 degrees in a punch seems like it would add more power from the twist but at the same time i feel it loses its speed and the little extra defense you get for it.

Personally, I feel that sunfist should be your opening attack and can continue to be every punch afterwards if you so choose to do so but I think it could become more effective if you have the turned fist be a subsequent attack as you hopefully have more a chance that you won't have to worry about it being striken. But that's just my theories on it :P
